Laxman Pai (Indian, 1926-2021) Swimming Pool signed Laxman Pai in English and Devanagiri and dated '79 in English lower right and title, medium, artist and size verso acrylic on canvas, framed 51 x 61cm (20 1/16 x 24in). Footnotes: Provenance Property from a private collection, UK. Pai's artistic journey began in the 1940s when he enrolled at the Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai, India. There, he honed his skills and explored various styles and techniques, including impressionism and cubism. However, it was the realm of figurative art that captured his imagination, and he soon became known for his distinctive approach to portraying the human form. The human figure takes centre stage in Pai's artworks as evidenced in this lot, and this serves as a vehicle to explore themes of identity, emotion, and the human condition. The four bodies are separated from their heads and yet the bodies are interlaced as they float through the water.
