Blue-painted Slant-lid Tabletop Desk, Steuben County, New York, c. 1850. Narrow rectangular top hinged to solid pine lid recessed in applied compound molding, opening onto a case of four till drawers set into rear corner of dovetailed case, old dark blue-painted surface with seam at base from now-missing frame or molding, (restoration), 68cm wide, 45cm deep, 38cm high (27 1/2in wide, 18in deep, 15in high). Footnotes: Provenance From the collection of Sue Connell, Southfield, Massachusetts. Includes papers dated 1849-58 related to finances, loans, and payments of Rice Hall Wentworth (1797-1877), a farmer and shoemaker in Jasper, New York.
