BAILEY (DAVID) David Bailey's Box of Pin-Ups, 36 photographic portraits of pop-stars, actors, models, artist, gangsters, and others, each with descriptive notes by Francis Wyndham on verso, without the original cardboard packing pieces and sheet of brown paper sometimes preserved, one portrait with overall toning, a few small marks, loose as issued in publisher's box with image of Bailey on one side, a repeat of the Jagger portrait on the other (soiled and stained with some loss to sides, and a few tape repairs), preserved in original posting box, large 4to (370 by 320mm.), Weidenfeld & Nicolson, [1965] Footnotes: The subjects include John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Brian Jones, Michael Caine, Terence Stamp, Jean Shrimpton, the Krays, Rudolf Nureyev, Cecil Beaton, and other icons of the Sixties. Provenance: 2-line inscription (1965) inside lid of box; From the Estate of Michael Chapman (1941-2021, songwriter and musician). Chapman did his PhD in photography at Leeds Art College and then headed the Photography Department at Bolton College of Art, before becoming a professional musician in 1966 and going on to record more than 50 albums. Nevertheless, he continued his love of photography, especially in black and white, and had his own exhibition in 1964; Andru Chapman.
