JAMES GILLRAY (British, 1756-1815) The Bridal-Night titled and inscribed 'Js. Gy. d. & fect.' and 'Pub. May 28 1797 by H. Humphrey 27 St. James Street' (along the lower edge) etching and aquatint with hand coloring 41.0 x 56.5 cm (16 1/8 x 22 1/4 in). framed 49 1/2 x 64.0 x 2.0 cm (19 1/2 x 25 1/5 x 4/5 in). Footnotes: N.B. On the reverse are two additional etchings, each image size 33 1/2 cm x 26 cm (13 1/5 x 10 1/4 in): Le Baiser a la Wirtembourg inscribed 'Pub. April 15th 1797 by H.Humphrey 27 St. James Street' and 'Heav'n grant their Happiness complete, / And may they make both Ends to meet, / in these hard times' (along the lower edge and below the title) etching Parliamentary Reform, or, Opposition Rats leaving the House they had Undermined inscribed 'Pub.
