Pair of Directoire Upholstered Mahogany Veneer Chauffeuses, attributed to Jacob-Desmalter (1803-13), Paris, France, c. 1810. Continuous scrolled crest with forward sweeping stiles over a squared front seat rail, which is partially over-upholstered, joined at front corners with two blocked and baluster-turned legs and intersected by two saber legs at rear, later velvet brocaded upholstery and cushion, 60cm wide, 55cm deep, 73cm high (24 7/8in wide, 22in deep, 29 3/8in high).
