A Pair of Costume Sketches for Glynis Johns Designed by Edith Head for The Court Jester Paramount, 1956. Designed by Edith Head. Gouache, pen, and ink on illustration board with various approval initials in pencil. Johns plays the brave and adventurous Maid Jean and is the voice of reason to Danny Kaye's manic jester in this colorful musical which also stars Angela Lansbury. She wears the vermilion gown in the famous scene with Mildred Natwick as they try to explain to Danny Kaye the tongue-twisting locations of the poison: 'The pellet with the poison is in the vessel with the pestle.' The green gown is worn in the scene where Kaye performs as the jester for the Royal Court while Johns skillfully guards the baby who is the true heir to the throne.
