Istvan Erdodi Plat, 1960s Grès émaillé. 3.5 cm, 12.5 cm Cachet de l'artiste. Footnotes: Istvan Erdodi Plat, 1960s Glazed stoneware. 3.5 cm high, 12.5 cm diameter Impressed with artist's seal. Provenance Galerie Epona, Paris Fina Gomez, acquired from the above Thence by descent to the present owner Né en 1924 à Budapest, István Erdödi baigne dans un milieu artistique et intellectuel et fonde à 21 ans une maison d'édition, « Parnassus ». D'abord orienté vers la sculpture, il découvre dans la céramique sa véritable passion. Il mène très vite des recherches sur les émaux chinois cuits en réduction dans la suite des travaux de Vince Wartah au XIXe siècle et parvient à une maîtrise incomparable des nuances de celadon, peau de pêche ou sang de bœuf. Dans les années 1960 et 1970, il voyage en Europe et en Amérique du Nord, et présente ses créations de sa ville natale à Faenza avant de s'installer à Paris. En 1977, il est même récompensé par une mention céramique au XIIe Grand Prix International d'Art Contemporain de Monaco. Le vase que nous présentons rend bien compte du travail d'István Erdödi sur la forme et la matière, fortement inspirées par les céramiques chinoises. Born in 1924 in Budapest, István Erdödi was immersed in an artistic and intellectual environment and at the age of 21 founded a publishing house, 'Parnassus'. Initially oriented towards sculpture, he discovered his true passion in ceramics. He quickly researched Chinese glazes fired in reduction following the work of Vince Wartah in the 19th century and achieved an incomparable mastery of the shades of celadon, peach skin and oxblood. In the 1960s and 1970s, he travelled to Europe and North America, presenting his creations from his hometown to Faenza before moving to Paris. In 1977, he was even awarded a ceramic mention at the 12th International Grand Prix of Contemporary Art in Monaco. The vase we present is a good example of István Erdödi's work on form and material, strongly inspired by Chinese ceramics.
