After all, when the incomparable 300 SL Coupe and Roadster were built fewer than 20 years before, they set the automotive world alight. The R113-series 230/250/280SL redefined the luxury roadster market with its unrivaled levels of refinement, luxury, and quality. For its latest iteration of the SL, Mercedes started with the chassis of the mid-size W114/115 model and sourced engines from the large W116 S-Class. The result was a luxurious V8 Convertible with continent-crushing performance wrapped in a timeless, crisp design that went on to become the longest-running passenger car series ever produced by Mercedes-Benz to date. With its combination of elegant styling and superb engineering, the R107 remains a cornerstone collector car, cherished by enthusiasts the world over. THE CAR OFFERED The 350SL offered here is a rare early model from the first year of R107 production, featuring the compact 3.5-liter V8 engine shared with the 280SE 3.5. A left-drive European model, it is finished in cream beige with a matching removable hardtop and is fully dressed in period AMG kit – including bumpers, side skirts, front valance, and the fantastic 'Penta' alloy wheels with color-keyed centers. Additionally, the navy-blue interior features period Recaro C adjustable sport seats trimmed in blue leather with contrasting piping. Aside from offering vastly improved support over the standard SL seats, the Recaro chairs also improve interior space. Sitting on lowered springs, the SL has a fantastic look that adds a touch of aggression to the timeless 107 styling. While in the Barry Taylor collection, this car has been in long-term static indoor storage and has been well-protected from sun exposure. Buyers Premium and Charges
The final bid (hammer) price of each lot will be
subject to a buyer's premium.
For MOTORCAR property the premium is 15% of the final bid price.
For MOTORCYCLE property the premium is 15% on the first $100,000 of the bid price and 10% on any amount of the bid price exceeding $100,000.
For AUTOMOBILIA or non motor vehicle property, the premium is 28% of the first $50,000 of the bid price, plus 27% of the amount of the bid price above $50,000 up to and including $1,000,000, plus 21% of the amount of the bid price above $1,000,000 up to and including $6,000,000, plus 14.5% of the amount of the bid price above $6,000,000.
