A Rare Pair Of Irish 28-Bore Flintlock Holster Pistols With Brass Barrels, Locks And Mounts By I. Wilson, Dublin, Late 17th/Early 18th Century With three-stage sighted barrels each engraved with acanthus forward of the girdle and signed in capitals along the top of the breech (touch-holes stained), plain tangs, border engraved rounded locks each signed in capitals, moulded figured full stocks (fore-ends partly replaced, one split through at the lock) each with apron and drop around the barrel tang, rounded butts (minor old repairs around each pommel), mounts comprising side-plates each cast, pierced and chased with scrolling foliage involving a monster-head, vacant escutcheons each with a grotesque mask below, border engraved pommels each decorated with repeated foliage along the spurs and with acanthus encircling the domed pommel-cap, the latter with grotesque mask cap, border engraved trigger-guards each with pierced foliate finial, turned baluster ramrod-pipes (two replaced, one with old hole), scrolled triggers, and later brass-capped wooden ramrods (2) 27.8 cm. barrels Footnotes: For a large flintlock blunderbuss by the same maker see W.
