A Cased Pair Of 32-Bore Percussion Duelling Pistols By Joseph Egg, No. 1 Piccadilly, London, No. 2979, Circa 1830 With browned twist octagonal sighted barrels each signed in full in capitals along the top flat, border engraved case-hardened patent breeches each recessed on one side, decorated with a foliate scroll on top and with pierced platinum plug, tangs each with back-sight and decorated with foliate scrollwork, case-hardened border engraved flat detented locks each signed in capitals and decorated with foliate scrollwork, dolphin hammers en suite, highly figured half-stocks each with silver fore-end cap and chequered rounded butt (both pommels with an area of old bruising), the latter each with shaped blued steel cap engraved with shells and foliage centred on a border engraved oval decorated as a flower-head, blued steel D-shaped trigger-guards and turned rear ramrod-pipes, the former each serial numbered on the tang and decorated with scrolling foliage on the border engraved bow, blued trigger-plates each engraved with a scallop shell on the pineapple-shaped finial, vacant silver escutcheons and barrel-bolt escutcheons, original brass-tipped ramrods, and most of their original finish (areas of old pitting and rust patination): in original relined and refitted mahogany case with some accessories including Sykes brass-mounted powder-flask retaining much of its original finish (cut-off spring incomplete), steel bullet mould, bone-mounted brush and circular bone patch-box, the interior of the lid with reproduction maker's trade label, the exterior with circular vacant brass escutcheon centred on a flush-fitting brass carrying handle, London proof marks and barrelsmith's mark 'CA' 23.8 cm. barrels Footnotes: Joseph Egg was at 1 Piccadilly (corner of Piccadilly and Haymarket) from 1814 to 1834, and as Joseph & Sons and Joseph & Co. at the same address between 1835 and 1841.
