A CASED AND ENGRAVED MANHATTAN FIRST MODEL, FIRST/SECOND VARIATION .22 REVOLVER, C. 1860-61. Serial number 289, foliate scroll engraved octagonal barrel with German silver front sight and with rib marked 'MANHATTAN FIRE ARMS/MANUFG./CO./N.Y.,' plain seven-shot cylinder, silvered iron frame, iron side plate, smooth walnut grips; housed in a mahogany case opening to a red velvet lined interior with a block for holding cartridges. Barrel lg. 3 1/2, overall lg. 7 in. Condition: Very good overall condition, barrel retains approx. 60% bluing, cylinder is mostly toned to gray/brown with areas of intact bluing, frame retains nearly 100% silvering, grips are excellent, action functions properly; case is very good, interior has some fading and staining. Footnotes: Note The revolver blends traits of First and Second Series First Model revolvers as it has a steel frame and a steel side plate. First Series revolvers typically have a brass frame and iron side plate whereas Second Series revolvers typically have an iron frame and a brass side plate.
