A SMITH & WESSON MODEL NUMBER ONE, SECOND ISSUE REVOLVER WITH RARE GUTTA-PERCHA CASE, c. 1860-68. Serial number 52478, .22 Short caliber, flat sided blued barrel with raised rib marked 'SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS' and blade front sight; blued cylinder marked 'PATENTED APRIL 3, 1855, JULY 5, 1859, & DEC. 18, 1860.'; silvered brass frame; smooth hard wood grips with flat butt; the molded case lid with an image of a Model Number One, First Issue revolver and 'MANUFACTURED ONLY BY SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASSACHUSETTS' opening to a purple velvet lined interior with holder for fifty-six cartridge. Barrel lg. 3, overall lg. 7 in. Condition: Pistol is in excellent overall condition retaining approx. 95% bluing with only minor wear at the muzzle and sharp edges, cylinder has light wear and a turn line, frame silvering is tarnished but nearly 100%, grips have minor wear and blemishes, action functions properly; case is in good overall condition with a small chip at the left side of the lid, and small losses associated with the pistol barrel mount, velvet is a little faded.
