An Egyptian steatite amulet of double feather plumes with sun disc, and an Egyptian black granite two finger amulet Late Period, circa 664-332 B.C. 9.6cm and 7.2cm high (2) Footnotes: Provenance: Resandro collection, Europe, primarily formed late 1960s-1997 (R-630 (HA 245) and R-633 (HA 210)). Published: I. Grimm-Stadelmann (ed.), Aesthetic Glimpses, Masterpieces of Ancient Egyptian Art, The Resandro Collection, Munich, 2012, p.199, no. R-630. The double-plume amulet imbued the wearer with 'dignity and majesty', as the falcon plumes were most strongly associated with Amun-Re, king of the gods, who wore them as part of a composite crown (C. Andrews, Amulets of Ancient Egypt, London, 1994, p. 80-1, pl. 81). The two finger amulet, which always occurs in dark stones, likely represents the two fingers of the embalmer, as deduced by its most common location near the embalming incision on the torso; 'it would thus have been intended to reconfirm the embalming process and perhaps give added protection to the most vulnerable part of the body' (ibid., p. 85). For the type, see W.M. Flinders Petrie, Amulets, reprint 1972, pl. XLIII, no. 273 a-h.
