KIYOMIZU ROKUBEI VIII (MASAHIRO, BORN 1954) A Stoneware Sculpture Heisei era (1989-2019), dated 1992 Comprising a hollow, polyhedral sculpture, covered in an near-black matt glaze, dated 1992 on the unglazed foot and signed M. Kyomizu in English and a single Chinese character Masa; with a wood tomobako storage box titled outside the lid Kukan keijo 92-X (Space Object 92-X) and signed Masahiro with a seal Masa. 20.5cm x 20.5cm (8 1/8in x 8 1/8in). (2). Footnotes: Kiyomizu Masahiro—today known as Kiyomizu Rokubei VIII—is descended from a famous family of Kyoto potters dating back to the eighteenth century. Four years after graduating from Waseda University's School of Architecture, he had a spectacular debut in the competitive world of Japanese ceramics by winning the Grand Prize in the Asahi Ceramics Exhibition in 1983. He has since won innumerable prizes both in Japan and abroad for his slab-built ceramic sculptures. He assumed the name of Rokubei VIII in 2000, following his father's retirement. His work is held in the collections of the British Museum, the National Art Museum of China, the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, the National Museum of Art in Osaka, the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art, and the Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) in Salem, Massachusetts, USA. Buyers' Premium and Charges


For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
